Scott Creek 4 - Casserole Die
Scott Creek 4 - Casserole Die
This die extrudes three parts of a casserole dish: the walls, handles, and feet. The dish wall height is 3" (before firing).
This die works with the Scott Creek 4" round extruder.
This design was originally made by Old Ash Artisans and is modified and reproduced here by permission. You can watch their YouTube video on how to use the die.
Unlike casserole dies for the other extruders, the Scott Creek Casserole die does not come with a blocker. The Scott Creek extruder has a very small distance between the end of the top tube and the endcap, meaning that the die has to be relatively thin. With a thin casserole die, a customer reported that the die bent under the pressure of extrusion, so I thickened the die for the portion that is inside the top tube. That should solve the bending problem, but now there is no room for the blocker. The die is now more like the original Old Ash Artisan design. Just recycle the clay from any excess handle and feet extrusions.
Materials
Materials
The die and cutter are 3D-printed using PLA filament. PLA is a plastic made from starch (not petrochemicals) and is compostable in industrial composters.
It is the same material used to make compostable eating utensils.
