Holey Rim Clay Cutter for Round GR Pottery Forms

This cutter makes a round shape with small leaf-like cutouts around rim. The cutouts make a great feel to the plate as you're handling it. The leafy cutouts can also be used to decorate the plate for a autumn theme.

The beautifully glazed plate is by Janet Chiovoloni. Janet's tip: Be sure to use thin plastic to cover the clay and prevent it from sticking to the cutter. The thin plastic can be from dry cleaner bags, plastic wrap, or similar.
The cutter is scaled to fit the round wooden forms from GR Pottery Forms, sizes 5", 6 1/2", 8", and 9 1/2".
The cutter for the 5" form has a 3 1/2" inner support ring, and an outer diameter of about 6 1/4". This makes a plate rim about 1".
The cutter for the 6 1/2" form has a 5" inner support ring, and an outer diameter of about 8". This makes a plate rim about 1 1/2".
The cutter for the 8" form has a 6 1/2" inner support ring, and an outer diameter of about 9 3/4". This makes a plate rim about 1 1/2".
The cutter for the 9 1/2" form has an 8" inner support ring, and an outer diameter of about 12". This makes a plate rim about 2".
The cutter will cleanly cut clay up to 1/2" thick without the supports touching the clay.
Center frame alignment: The center "frame" of the cutter matches the base of the pottery form. You can use the frame to guide rollers or other decoration tools to pattern the center of the tray. You can also lightly trace around the frame to help align and center the form.
Frame as hanger for pegboard: Many potters store their cutters on pegboard. Hang your cutter by the frame to protect the cutting edge and prevent the cutter from stretching.

The die and cutter are 3D-printed using PLA filament. PLA is a plastic made from starch (not petrochemicals) and is compostable in industrial composters.
It is the same material used to make compostable eating utensils.

Care information
To clean, remove as much clay as possible. Let remaining clay dry completely. Soak in water and brush with soft-bristled brush. Not dishwasher safe.
