These dies extrude a hollow tube shape. There are four dies that make tubes with outer diameters of 20, 25, 30 and 35mm diameters. They all have 5 mm walls. Each die fits in 2" handheld extruders, including brands like Scott Creek, Shimpo / Nidec, and Kemper.

They could be great for making wind chimes, candle holders ... anything totally tubular.

Regarding sizing, the "35mm" die has an inner diameter of 25mm, or about 1". It should be about the right size for a taper candle, ~7/8", after firing. If you want a different dimension, just let me know, and I can customize the die for you.

Extrusion Dimensions:

  • The 20mm die extrusion has an outer diameter of 20mm, wall thickness of 5mm, and inner diameter of 10mm.
  • The 25mm die extrusion has an outer diameter of 25mm, wall thickness of 5mm, and inner diameter of 15mm.
  • The 30mm die extrusion has an outer diameter of 30mm, wall thickness of 5mm, and inner diameter of 20mm.
  • The 35mm die extrusion has an outer diameter of 35mm, wall thickness of 5mm, and inner diameter of 25mm.

Die Dimensions: Each die is about 2 1/2" in diameter and 1/2" thick.

Materials

The die and cutter are 3D-printed using PLA filament. PLA is a plastic made from starch (not petrochemicals) and is compostable in industrial composters.

It is the same material used to make compostable eating utensils.

Care information

To clean, remove as much clay as possible. Let remaining clay dry completely. Soak in water and brush with soft-bristled brush. Not dishwasher safe.

Little Chip to the Rescue!

I was thrilled when I saw what Little Chip had to offer! I could turn my little hand held Nidec into a mini wall mounted extruder, yay! Then the variety of dies for my little extruder was awesome. I see lots of flutes, candle holders and some unique things in my future. The possibilities!

Handheld extrusion

The dies and the service from this company are wonderful. My only caution to other potters, and this is strictly my personal issue, is that the dies are larger than I’m used to and more difficult to squeeze the plunger handle. I’m a senior citizen and just don’t have the strength in my hands to squeeze the way I used to.

Nice option

Although I do love the option these provide, I found it very challenging to push the clay through and the result was a bit rough. Still, I will find some use for these. Also, one chipped on the edge when I was trying to remove it (and didn’t realize I needed to push more clay after I removed the end cap to make it easier.
