Many potters have a handheld extruder but use it only to make coils and handles. Here's a die that expands the range of what is possible to make with a handheld extruder.

This die extrudes a hollow "D" shape. It can be used to make small wall vases or ... whatever you imagine. The die screws onto the extruder in place of the endcap.

This die is called "Full bore" because it extrudes a shape that is about as large as possible with a handheld extruder.

The extruded shape is 2 1/8" from the flat to the rounded tip and 2 1/8" from the "D" top to its bottom. The wall thickness is 1/4".

This die is compatible with the Scott Creek, Shimpo / Nidec handheld extruders and the Milwaukee battery-powered caulking gun.

The die is about 3" wide and 1 3/4" tall.

Materials

The die and cutter are 3D-printed using PLA filament. PLA is a plastic made from starch (not petrochemicals) and is compostable in industrial composters.

It is the same material used to make compostable eating utensils.

Care information

To clean, remove as much clay as possible. Let remaining clay dry completely. Soak in water and brush with soft-bristled brush. Not dishwasher safe.

Compatibility

LittleChip Tools is not affiliated with any extruder manufacturer. The dies are designed to be compatible with the extruders, but said compatibility is the responsibility of this store and not the extruder manufacturer. All trademarks and IP for the extruders and for the dies are the property of the respective companies.

Lots of ideas for the D-shape hollow die

The D-shape hollow die arrived quickly and well packed. It has inspired me to make a couple of vases as well as a salt and pepper set.
My only recommendation is that you use soft clay, as harder extruded clay will tend to curve.
I look forward to using this die to make hanging planters, snack trays and more. Thanks!

Superb

These are superb, as always! I can extrude even the grittiest clays through them with no issues.
